Hybrid Cars

Being bored at home has its advantages: lots of spare time. I decided to look for a greener car.

For some information on what Hybrids are and what their pros and cons are, check out this CTV article.

First I checked out the cheapest. The Honda Civic Hybrid. It's a beauty and at a price of CAD$25,950 it may actually be affordable.

The next ones I looked at are the Toyotas. They actually have the most to select from. The Prius would be my first choice. It has the highest fuel efficiency out of all the hybrids. It's a little pricey however at CAD$31,280. If I had to go for looks I would go for the Camry Hybrid. It is really stylish and very well priced at CAD$31,900. However, since my lifestyle tends to take me out into the wilderness, the Highlander Hybrid may work best. It's powerful and fuel efficient. It actually has more Horsepower (268) than its non hybrid version. Too bad the price is a little steep at CAD$44,205.

And last but not least the Ford Escape Hybrid. Another SUV that's not badly priced at CAD$33,499.

But the whole point is about being green. So I would most likely go for the Prius or the Honda Civic Hybrid. They're the greenest and cheapest.

Soon a few other hybrids should arrive. Nissan is working on a Hybrid Altima that should soon be available.

And before I forget, if you live in British Columbia, you get a tax rebate of CAD$2000 when buying a Hybrid!!! Now that's pretty sweet. (Ontario and Prince Edward Island offer a similar rebate too).

My name is Sophia. I recently returned to university to get my teaching certification. Like many other people today, I am really concerned about the environment. Instead of just thinking about it, I have decided to try and do something about it. How can I modify my behaviour without living like a complete monk (not that there is anything wrong with living like a monk, it just isn't my thing)?

The focus here is little changes. What little things can I do to make a difference? I want to use this blog to chronicle my efforts. It will be a diary of my successes and failures, and I hope it will be useful for me to log my efforts and for others who have similar interests.

The main focus is definitely environmental, but I am also interested in other issues such as fair trade and globalization. I am sure that I will periodically touch on some of these themes as well.
